How to dispose of electronic waste

Electronic waste is equipment that is discarded in any way, such as: Cell phones, Notebooks, Computers, Televisions, among many other electronic equipment.

Every electronic device that contains a disposable battery does a lot of damage to the planet, due to the toxic substances and heavy metals they contain inside, these equipments are capable of contaminating soil, water and food, which can have a huge impact on human health.

In addition to extreme care in recycling these materials through advanced repairs, there are a few other things we can do to further alleviate this problem.

Dispose of in specific bins, donate to institutions or museums, pass on to others for use or even sell the equipment, ensuring a longer useful life.

And what benefits will these practices bring us?

With a study published in 2019 by the journal Environmental Science & Technology, the value of extracting new minerals from deposits is 13 times greater than the value of recovering them from old electronics, in addition, a large amount of water and energy.

Electronics recycling improves environmental quality, among other benefits. According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), these items, if properly recycled, can create an opportunity worth more than US$1.4 billion annually and create millions of new jobs worldwide.

The disuse of these devices in the treatment procedure ends up generating a disadvantage, and ends up happening more in countries that receive more quantities, such as Switzerland, Denmark, Iceland, the United Kingdom and Norway.

And it turns out that African countries and less developed Asian countries end up generating little electronic waste, such as Afghanistan, Nepal, Ethiopia, Niger and Uganda.

The use of electronics should not be completely eliminated, but it must be done carefully, aiming for a better world, do your part and take good care of what you are going to discard.
